Recent developments in information technologies decreased effectiveness of traditional career guidance. New approaches which bring the “self” forward and make the person important in exclusive career management are gaining popularity among youngsters. They have gained more experience in managing their own career issues. Social networks, forums, web sites, personal blogs which are used to reach available information for searching job opportunities via new technologies have been appeared as new social interaction milieu.
Undoubtedly, effectiveness of self- guidance depends on cultural values in which people live. In Turkey, although concept of self-career guidance is quite new, more and more youngsters try to use these tools for job searching without any help.
The presentation is focused on the capacity of Turkish university career centers in self-guidance issue by focusing on: benefits/dis-benefits; potential of career counseling professionals; and awareness of students and graduates.
